Overview

Da Lat is Vietnam's escape from the heat - a highland retreat at 1,500 meters where French colonizers built villas, planted pines, and introduced strawberries. The cool climate, flower gardens, and French-Vietnamese architecture create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in the country.

Beyond the somewhat kitsch tourist attractions, Da Lat offers serious coffee culture (this is Vietnam's arabica heartland), adventure activities from canyoning to mountain biking, and a food scene that makes the most of the region's produce. It's also Vietnam's unofficial honeymoon capital.

Top Things to Do

3Explore the delightfully weird Hang Nga Crazy House architectural oddity
4Take the cable car over pine forests to Truc Lam Zen Monastery
5Hunt for bargains at the massive Da Lat Night Market

Getting There & Around

By Air: Lien Khuong Airport (DLI) is 30km from downtown Da Lat. Grab or taxi costs around 250,000-350,000 VND. Direct flights connect to HCMC, Hanoi, and Da Nang.

By Train: No train service to Da Lat, though a 7km heritage railway runs to Trai Mat village with an old French locomotive - purely for tourism.

Getting Around: Da Lat is hilly, making motorbikes the practical choice (150,000-200,000 VND/day). Grab works in the center. The town center is walkable, but attractions spread across the hills.
